The following incident came into focus as President Barack Obama was preparing to accept the Democratic Nomination for president. Another incident took place only days ago. Consider the intent of the parties. Depending on your political or cultural alliance you can easily become angry and judgmental when you hear that a man is trucking through various counties with a trailer displaying the president,... Read more

If you read the piece below, "President Obama Wins," you will know that it was written and posted before the polls opened anywhere in the country. There was no logical way for me to know the outcome of the election. I could have entered a hope, a desire, a guess. What I did was state my case emphatically, leaving myself no avenue of escape. Either I was right or I would embarrass myself before all... Read more

While I am not particularly political in nature, I recognize that the men and women who serve the city, state and nation have formidable tasks. If we do not view them in a vacuum we come to see that they need our support to do their jobs, and that they can be of assistance to us, if we learn the function of their offices. What is important is that the citizens maintains a sense of personal power.... Read more

From time to time we have to reflect on our core mission. Artwork from a centerfold of What Is Enlightenment? (magazine) My initial enlightenment experience (satori, in Japanese) took place in 1971. It was deepened five years later when I encountered Master Sant Keshavadas of the Himalayan meditative tradition. I emptied myself so that I might mature under a seasoned master. Years passed before... Read more

Eleven years have passed since the tragedy of 9-11. Whether by design or coincidence we received a reminder that America is still a target. We lost our Ambassador, Chris Stevens, and three other officers of the U.S. consulate in Benghazi,Libya, through violence, and our embassy in Cairo is also being threatened. The violence began on the exact day of the Eleventh anniversary of the Twin Towers attack.... Read more

It was the seventies. I was taking a leisurely walk through downtown Manhattan. I came upon a construction site with the familiar boards used to protect both the site and passers-by. When I was close enough to read I discovered it was announcing the appearance of... Read more

Donna Summer was on the radio in more ways than one. Now her music and spirit continue to vibrate through the ether and our hearts. Sometimes, perhaps, often, we do not know how good a dance is until the word's "last dance," are heard. The tradition continues When I read a newspaper article or hear a news report detailing how someone has been injured or killed by a senseless act of violence I am deeply troubled. On one hand, I am grieved by the fact that a person can be so lacking in human compassion that they have no problem inflicting pain, suffering or death on someone else. Yet, these crimes do take place, daily. No one knows... Read more
